Dalhart’s Economy is centered around agribusiness, including farming, ranching, feedlot operations, large scale pig farms, and most recently the addition of a cheese processing plant from  a company based in California called Hilmar Cheese.

Dalhart is known as “the gateway to the Colorado Rocky Mountains” and is a pivotal place for weary travels. Home to the XIT Ranch which is celebrated the first Thursday of August with the XIT Rodeo &   Reunion.  The largest percent of the 7,237 population is 25-44 and second largest percent is 15 or younger. Mostly White (non-Hispanic) with a median income of $30,897.
